Meyvaert Glass is a family company situated in Ghent, Belgium. The first acquaintance with the glass industry already dates back to 1826. At the beginning of the 1900s, Theofiel Meyvaert was the first in Flanders to establish his own mirror factory. Theofiel occupied himself with cutting and polishing mirrors. As a one-man business, he worked exclusively for individuals. In the mid-1940s, Albert Meyvaert succeeded his father and successfully carried on production by expanding step by step. When Albert’s son, Fritz Meyvaert entered the business, he had the greatest plans, as he wanted to sell his product across the borders.
The small workshop of that time developed into a large company with international ambitions. Meyvaert was already known for the quality of its products and for its strict quality standards. At the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the ‘70s, when Paul and Francis, the two sons of Fritz Meyvaert made their entry, Meyvaert Miroiterie was split up into two departments.
Meyvaert Glas, the first department under the direction of Francis Meyvaert, focussed on the processing, edging and finishing of “float glass”, particularly concentrating on the furniture industry.
At the beginning of the new millennium, his two sons Alex and Bernard (5th generation), made their entry into the family company.
The second department under the guidance of Paul Meyvaert, specialised itself in manufacturing showcases for the museum industry. At present, Meyvaert Glass Engineering (www.meyvaert.be) is market leader in previous mentioned niche market.
